The IK Industrievereinigung Kunststoffverpackungen e. V. (German Association for Plastics Packaging and Films) rejects the proposed ban on selected plastic products announced today by the EU Commission. “With its far-reaching Plastics Strategy, announced at the start of the year, the EU Commission obliged all stakeholders in the value creation chain to share responsibility for sustainable recovery and reuse, thereby raising the bar considerably,” IK Managing Director Dr Jürgen Bruder explains.


On its General Assembly in March, the ICPP International Confederation of Plastics Packaging Manufacturers elected a new President for four years.


ELIPSO and IK, the trade organisations representing the plastic & flexible packaging industry in France and Germany, are pleased to announce the launch of the 4th PackTheFuture Sustainable Plastic Packaging Award.


PET beverage bottles already meet the key requirements in the current debate on plastic recycling. Germany’s firmly established recycling system from manufacturing to recycling PET bottles has played a decisive role, placing the German PET market ahead of the EU plastic strategy just published. This eliminates the issue of export restrictions applicable to plastic waste via China in PET bottle disposal.

Industry still fears locational disadvantages in the medium term

German plastics packaging manufacturers consider the current economic trend at the beginning of the new year as very positive.
Around 90 percent of companies questioned rate the current economic situation as good.


The German plastics packaging industry association (IK) is taking advantage of Coastal Cleanup Day on 16 September to reiterate its clear position on marine litter.


The IK Industrievereinigung Kunststoffverpackungen e.V. , German Association for Plastics Packagings and Films, and Elipso, the French Plastic & Flexible Packaging Association, agreed to further develop their partnership. In early July a first workshop of the teams of both associations took place in Paris.


“Recycling capability is an important aspect of the eco-design of packaging. But eco-design is more than just design for recycling.” This was an important conclusion of the Eco-Design Forum which took place during the interpack trade fair in Düsseldorf on 5 May. The event was very well attended with almost 100 participants and was organised by the Round Table on the Eco-Design of Plastics Packaging and the IK - German Plastics Packaging Industry Association.
